Help with mail order

Many companies that sell through catalogues belong to the Mail Order Traders' Association (MOTA). Their catalogues explain:
• MOTA's code of practice

• tell you how to complain.

MOTA also offers to resolve complaints against its members.
• using an arbitration system
• that is independent and low cost.
Please note: if you choose MOTA arbitration, you will have to present your evidence in writing; you won't normally have the chance to appear in person.

MOTA members must:
• give a full and accurate descriptions of the goods in their catalogues
• meet delivery dates quoted
• inform customers if there is undue delay
• give prompt refunds for unwanted or faulty goods
• make it clear if there is likely to be any surcharge
• make it clear if there is likely to be any restricted availability
• ensure that appropriate servicing facilities are available – if the goods on offer normally require servicing.
