Where to go for help

There are government organisations that help consumers.
They might be able to:
• take action against a supplier who breaks the law.
• take traders to court
But they need your help. Please let them know if you do have a complaint – it might also help other people in the future.

Your first port of call might be your own trading standards department. Click on www.tradingstandards.gov.uk to find your nearest office
If you live in Northern Ireland, contact the
Department of Enterprise
Trade & Investment
Trading Standards Service.

We at the OFT will follow up complaints from consumers against companies – but please note that we are unable to seek compensation for individual cases.

Internet complaint:
If your complaint is about something you've bought on the internet again, you should complain to the trader first.
Look at the TRUST UK site www.trust.org.uk for information about independent approval schemes and to find out if the trader is part of one.
