You might be able to get a refund if you bought things from a newspaper or magazine advert and they run an advance payment protection scheme.
There are four of these schemes:
Each has different conditions. But please note you will not be covered under any of these schemes if:
the advert appeared in a publication that does not belong to one of the trade associations
the advert appeared in a classified column the small adverts
you bought the goods from a catalogue advertised by the trader
you only sent a deposit not the full payment
you don't claim within the time limit set in the scheme
Please note: before they pay up, some schemes require that traders have to be insolvent or in liquidation it's not enough that the trader has just stopped trading.
